Jibiana Jakpor’s NAACP ACT-SO Win

WCS student, Jibiana Jakpor, has received the gold medal for Earth and Space Science at the National NAACP ACT-SO competition in Detroit!
ACT-SO is the “Olympics of the Mind”—Afroacademic Cultural Technological Scientific Olympics. There were 750 students at nationals (from the original 11,000) competing in 32 categories—sciences, arts, and humanities.

We reported back in April that Jibiana had competed at the Los Angeles NAACP ACT-SO, where she was awarded gold in 2 categories! She was one of the students sent to represent LA at the national meeting in Detroit. She presented her projects in:
1. Medicine and Health: “Comparison of Gene Expression in Pancreatic Cancer with and without Perineural Invasion.” 2. Earth and Space Science: “Combatting Wildfire Smoke: A Comparison of the Efficacy of Various HVAC Filters.” Jibiana also received a silver medal in the poetry category for her poem called “Catching Twillight.”! Once again, WCS would like to congratulate Jibiana in all her success! We are eager to see what’s next and will keep you all updated!
