Hi, my name is Kim Holliday. I teach 7th grade Bible, Pre-Algebra, and Math 7. This is also my second year coaching the high school girls JV volleyball team at WCS.
I truly believe that after a break from full-time teaching (raising my kids), the Lord called me back to this exact place in a very clear way. I love math, and the opportunity to teach Bible is a new blessing for me!
I taught 3rd grade for 8 years in Downey Unified School District right after finishing my Bachelor’s degree and credential at Azusa Pacific University. While in Downey, I started an after school choir for 4th and 5th graders (led that group for 9 years, and it is still going today), and I taught an adult school music course. I homeschooled both of my children for 9 years, and I have substitute taught grades K-12. I was also the assistant/head coach of the volleyball program at Valley Christian High School for 5 years.
I grew up in Bellfower, CA, where my parents still reside in the home they built when I was 2 years old. We had horses and many other animals which I enjoyed as a kid. We moved from Cypress to Riverside two years ago, and our family has a golden retriever named Marley. We also recently adopted my father-in-law’s smaller dog Gizmo.
I am the youngest of five kids, so I have tons of nieces and nephews! My family is very close and my parents now have more than 20 great-grandchildren. I met my husband Guy when I was a senior in college. He and I have been married for 21 years. He is the Director of Bands and the Associate Dean in the School of Music at CBU. We have two kids at Woodcrest Christian. Justin is in 6th grade and Allie is a Junior this year. We all serve in our church music department every week where my husband is the worship leader (Calvary Chapel Old Towne, in Orange).
I love traveling with my family, volleyball, boating/waterskiing, camping, and singing. The most interesting place I’ve traveled is to Europe before my husband and I had kids. We visited 8 countries over 5 weeks. We started in London, then took the “chunnel” to Paris. We traveled around the continent by train, met so many interesting people, and saw so many incredible sights in England, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic. My favorite place was the Italian Riviera, an area called the Cinque Terra, where it was mostly Italian vacationers and very few Americans (I think that may have changed by now). It was simply beautiful and quaint, with great food!
I love to play sports, and I like watching local sports, like WCS and CBU volleyball and basketball games.
I’m already enjoying the connection with new friends on staff, new students in 7th and 8th grade, and working with Mrs. Orr. I am excited to see what God has in store for all of us at WCS!
