Service Requirements
 /  Service Requirements

Each student at Woodcrest Christian Middle School is expected to serve in our local community for at least 10 hours as a part of their Bible class requirement. The purpose of this project is not to add extra work to busy schedules, but it is to expose Woodcrest students to serving others. Christ has called us to serve others and to show the fruits of our faith through ministering to others. Woodcrest Christian School would be remiss if it only required intellectual challenging of our students’ faith and neglected the practical living out of our Christian faith. Please see the link below for further information and collection of your service hour requirement.

Service Projects

Some students may choose to fulfill their service hour requirements through local service projects. These also count toward your service hours. Please read carefully for an understanding of what is required to earn your hours.

Letters to Troops: 2 hours for 10 letters

Every year thousands of service members are deployed around the world, separated from family, friends and the comforts of home. Join the mission of Operation Gratitude to say “Thank You” to those who serve.

Students may write letters of gratitude and encouragement to troops and donate them through Operation Gratitude. For more information, please visit the website and follow these letter writing guidelines carefully.

To earn service hours, your letter must include your name (first name only), an expression of gratitude, a description of why you appreciate their service, a scripture, and a statement that you are praying for them. Letters should be ¾ to 1 page handwritten.  You may include a drawing if you wish. Each letter will earn you 12 minutes toward your service hour requirement. To submit these hours, please attach photos of you writing and posting the letters. Additionally, we require that you submit a copy of at least one letter to us. Attach the photos and a photocopy of at least one letter to the Service Hours Form and submit before the deadline.

Care Packages for Missionaries: 3 hours per care package

Do you have a heart for missions? Consider supporting overseas missionaries through care packages and letters of encouragement. A well-timed care package may be just the encouragement a missionary needs!  Care packages should be thoughtful gifts with items from home that are difficult to find overseas.  Consider your favorite items and share that you are sending items that you thought they would enjoy.  Write a letter of encouragement to the missionary and include a Bible verse. Please don’t include your address or last name in the letter.

To submit this project for service hours, we ask that you document your involvement in the following ways:

  1. Take photos: capture yourself packing the care package and delivering it to the church or organization who will ship the package. Print and attach the photos to your service hours form.
  2. Write a paragraph description of the project, the items you packed, who the care package is for, and how you hope it helps or encourages the missionary.
  3. Attach a copy of the letter to your service hours form.

You can earn up to three hours per care package, when all documentation is included with your service hours form.

The following churches are open to receiving care packages for missionaries:

  1. The Grove Community church, 19900 Grove Community Dr, Riverside, CA 92508, (951) 571-9090.
  2. Name of church, address, contact phone number or email

Letters of Gratitude to Local Service People: 2 hours for 10 letters

Be a light and an encourager to our hometown heroes!  Some examples include:

  • Law enforcement such as police, highway patrol, and the sheriff
  • Fire Fighters
  • Nurses and doctors from a local hospital department, such as the Emergency Room
  • Church staff and pastors

To earn service hours, your letter must include your name (first name only), an expression of gratitude, a scripture, and a statement that you are praying for them. Please also include a sentence with specific reasons you are grateful for their service to your community. You may include a drawing if you wish.  Letters should be ¾ to 1 page handwritten.  Each letter will earn you 12 minutes toward your service requirement. To submit these hours, please attach photos of you writing and mailing or delivering the letters. Additionally, we require that you submit a copy of at least one letter to us. Attach the photos and a photocopy of at least one letter to the Service Hours Form and submit before the deadline.
