What are AP and Honors classes and why take them?
- Honors classes are taught at a faster pace than regular classes and require more work.
- AP stands for Advanced Placement and are taught like a college level course which requires more critical thinking and a lot more work.
- College Credit given for passing AP exams (given at the end of the school year for each AP class).
- Both Honors and AP classes give an extra grade point in GPA.
How do I get into an AP/Honors Class?
- Watch the videos below for each class you are interested in and type your name at the bottom of the page to let us now you watched them.
- Check to make sure you meet the criteria to get into the class or classes (see below)
- Pick the Honors or AP class on your course request form with Miss Solimon
- If required, take an entrance exam, timed write, or complete an audition.
What are the requirements/prerequisites for getting into these classes?
Science Department
Honors Chemistry: B or better in Alg. II or concurrent enrollment in Hon. Alg. II or higher, teacher
recommendations and math entrance test (no test for students with an A in both semester of Chemistry).
AP Physics: B or better in Honors Trig and enrollment in, or completion of AP Calculus AB (or higher)
Honors Anatomy & Physiology (senior only): B or better in Bio/Hon. Bio and Chem/Hon. Chem and teacher recs.
Math Department
Honors Algebra II: B or better in Algebra I and Geometry, teacher recommendations/possible entrance exam
Honors Trig/Pre-Cal: B or better in Hon. Alg. II or an A in Alg. II and teacher recs/possible entrance exam
AP Calculus AB: B or better in Honors Trig, and teacher recommendations/possible entrance exam
AP Calculus BC: B or better in AP Calculus AB, and teacher recommendations/possible entrance exam
AP Statistics: B or better in Trig or C or better in Honors Trig, teacher recommendations, and entrance exam
Computer Science Electives
AP Computer Science Principles (sophomore/junior/senior): Completion of Alg. I with a C- or better. Teacher
recommendations and interview.
AP Computer Science A (sophomore/junior/senior): Must learn JAVA language. Teacher recs. and interview.
Fine Arts Department
Honors Band (juniors/seniors only): Audition required and teacher approval.
English Department
AP Lang (juniors): B or better in each semester of H.S. English, teacher recommendations, and timed writing test
AP Lit (seniors): B or better in AP Lang. or A in Eng. III, B or better in Eng. I & II, teacher recs. & writing sample
Social Studies Department
AP US History (juniors): B or better in World History and English II, timed write and teacher recommendations.

Honors Bible IV (seniors only): B or better in all Bible classes, teacher recommendations, and test on Bible content
