WCHS Honors Mandatory Info Meeting

Welcome to the WCHS 9th Grade Honors Mandatory Information website. In the past, we have had an in person meeting but this year we have made this meeting virtual. On this webpage you will learn what Honors classes are, the benefits for taking them and how to get into those classes. We hope this information helps you determine if an Honors class is right for you. Mrs. Funderburk, the High School Guidance Counselor, will be speaking in your Bible class on March 4th to let you know how to select your classes for next year. We ask that you watch these videos and submit the form below before turning in your class selection. Please email Mrs. Funderburk if you have questions at counselor@wcss.org.

Middle School AP/Honors

What are Honors classes and why take them?
  • Honors classes are taught at a faster pace than regular classes and require more work.
  • Honors classes give an extra grade point in GPA.

 

What Honors classes can 9th grade students take?

Honors Biology (Freshmen class)

Honors Algebra II

Honors Trig/Pre-Cal


How do I get into an Honors Class?
 
  1. Watch the videos below for each class you are interested in and type your name at the bottom of the page to let us now you watched them.
  2. Check to make sure you meet the criteria to get into the class or classes (see below)
  3. Pick the Honors class on your course request form (Mrs. Funderburk will show you how to do this on March 4th)
  4. If required, take an entrance exam

 

What are the requirements/prerequisites for getting into these classes?

Science Department

   Honors Biology (freshmen): B or better in Life Science and Physical Science, entrance exam, and teacher recs.

  

Math Department

   Honors Algebra II: B or better in Algebra I and Geometry, teacher recommendations/possible entrance exam

   Honors Trig/Pre-Cal: B or better in Hon. Alg. II or an A in Alg. II and teacher recs/possible entrance exam
