Let Him Reign

Rain is such a gift from God.  Here in Southern California it can be a rarity.  But when it rains, oh how the landscape changes.  The hillsides suddenly turn green, the sky and the air are crisp and fresh.  We seem to have more spring in our step. How similar our lives are when we allow the Lord Jesus access to our hearts and lives.  When we allow Him to rule and reign the landscape of our lives changes.  We see things clearer.  His perspective becomes our perspective.  We live in what can sometimes feel like such a dark time and yet Jesus is the same.  He never changes.  Although seasons change, both physically and metaphorically, He does not.  During the dark and difficult days of His betrayal and crucifixion, He never lost control.  All that He went through was preordained by the Father.  It says in John 19: 28 & 30, “After this Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, “I am thirsty.”  Therefore, when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!”  And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”  Everything that Jesus endured, all that was done to Him during that horrible ordeal, was accomplished to fulfill His purposes.  He chose to give up His life so that we might have access to the Father and eternal life with Him.  It may have appeared to those bystanders that Jesus had lost all control yet we know that it was all a part of His magnificent plan.  Jesus, taking on our sin, has given us the opportunity to spend eternity with Him. What a surprise when on the third day Jesus rose from the dead!  He is alive.  He is reigning now at the right hand of the Father and will reign forever and ever.  May we walk closely with Him enjoying the freshness of a daily, personal relationship with Him.  Life will look fresher and your step will be lighter as He fills your heart with His joy.  May this Easter season be a joyous celebration for you and your family. Let Him reign!

With joy,

Amerikids Bless Veterans

Recently, the WCDS second graders performed their patriotic program, Amerikids.  They learned all 50 states in alphabetical order, they learned the preamble to the constitution, and they sang all four military theme songs.  During the singing of these moving songs, those in each branch of the military stood when their song was sung.  Our young military representatives saluted them and thank-you cards were passed out to each of them.  This moving tribute was a blessing to all.  The following week the students took a trip to March Air Museum where they sang to the volunteer veterans.  These men and women were moved to tears as these little ones paid respect to these American heroes.  We could not be prouder of our Amerikids who are learning that freedom isn’t free and that we are blessed to live in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.  Great job, Amerikids!

Belle and Her Beauties

The WCS Drama Department did a marvelous job performing Beauty and the Beast!  The students came down to the lower campus to give a sneak peek at the play.  We all enjoyed their rousing rendition of Be Our Guest.  Plates, napkins, spatulas, salt and pepper shakers, along with some adorable tea cups, sang and danced into our hearts.  Then many of us enjoyed the full production at the upper campus.  Led by Mrs. Teresa Bickett, these students did a spectacular job!  The talent of these young men and women is truly extraordinary.  Several WCDS girls got the pleasure of welcoming “the guests” as they entered the Royals Pavilion by being one of Belle’s Beauties.  What a joy to see these students grow and use their gifts and talents for the glory of God and the enjoyment of all who watched.

Pi Day

Did you know that March 14 is known as Pi Day?  Yes, 3.14, Pi.  The day started with a friendly competition with Mr. Pool and Mr. Bishop.  These two brave souls competed in the Pie in the Face game to get the celebration going.  Mr. Bishop won the game as Mr. Pool got the pie in the face, (although it looked like he may have gotten some help from Mr. Bishop).  The students cheered them on as they enjoyed the face full of creamy whipped topping that was smashed into Mr. Pool’s face.  These men were real troopers.  Several classes participated in “Pi” activities including, creatively designed t-shirts, finding out how far they could go with Pi, and group activities relating to the use of Pi.  Some even got to have a “taste of pie”.

Teachers Attend CUE

Several teachers recently attended the Computer Using Education (CUE) conference.  These teachers learned new and innovative ways to enhance learning through technology.  They are already implementing some new ideas including expanding the use of Google Classroom and new apps for use on their interactive whiteboards. As the teachers continue to stay current on new technology, it will no doubt translate into engaging learning opportunities for the students at WCDS.

Raffle Run

Last month some 300 students participated in the 100 Mile Club Raffle Run.  For each lap the students ran they received a raffle ticket.  They ran so hard and so fast the teachers and parent volunteers could hardly keep up.  The students ran over 1000 laps!  Later that day tickets were drawn for prizes.  About 30 students won prizes ranging from ice cream tickets to gift cards.  This helped motivate our runners to reach their goal of running 100 miles in the school year.  They are doing great.  Keep running!

Open House Silent Auction - May 4th

This year WCDS will add to the festivities of Open House by having a Silent Auction in the Cafeteria.  Items are being collected now and baskets will be put together soon for our biennial event.  This is always a highlight of our Open House celebration.  The Cafeteria will be transformed into wall-to-wall gift items that parents, grandparents, and friends can bid on.  The proceeds will go towards completing our classrooms with interactive projectors.  We also hope to add two more Chromebook carts for classroom use.  Be watching at the end of April for the catalog of items so you can begin to “shop” for your favorites.  If you have a business you would like to donate a service to or an item that you would like to donate (all items must be new), please turn them into the front office.  We will provide you with a gift receipt for tax purposes.  Thank you in advance for your support of our Auction.

WCDS Students Grow in Public Speaking

The students at WCDS are being given the opportunity to learn and grow in their ability to speak publically.  Starting in kindergarten and moving all the way through to sixth grade, students are speaking through oral presentations.  This skill is of great importance as students prepare for life.  Public speaking is difficult for some while others love being able to share what they have learned in this manner.  As the students practice, this skill becomes easier and easier for them.  They are also learning how to listen and encourage those who are sharing their expertise.  Recently, the fifth graders presented oral book reports along with their Chromebook visual props.  They were confident speakers that were able to stand before their peers and give a clear explanation of what they had read.  Third and fourth graders also presented history and science projects.  Some dressed up in costume while others explained their powerpoint presentations to their classmates.  These skills will benefit them as they prepare for a career in the future.  We couldn’t be prouder of how they are learning and developing greater communication skills.

Missions Day Comes Alive

The annual WCDS Missions Day was a huge success.  It started with our “Parade Around the World”.  Beginning in Mexico, students wound through the classrooms while their senses were heightened by sights, smells, tastes, and sounds.  The smell of curry wafted through India (Room 2), and a lovely café with cheese and baguettes were seen in France (Room 7).  The Cafeteria was transformed into a museum of art with Mona Lisa herself sitting for her painting, while Mummies from Egypt stood among the pyramids.  The afternoon was filled with music and dancing at our chapels.  Students worshiped the Lord through songs of praise.  Several classes shared traditional songs and dances from their countries.  An offering was taken for our service project this year, The Greatest Journey. This is a favorite day for many.   The students at WCDS are growing in their understanding of God’s view of the world and His love for all people.  May we never stop praying for those throughout our world.

WCDS Offers Transitional Kindergarten

For over 20 years, we have been praying about starting a Transitional Kindergarten class.  The Lord has opened up the space for us to be able to offer this class for these “not quite ready for kindergartners”. They are going to enjoy a full day of fun and learning conducive to their age and abilities.  This will be a chance for them to learn and grow in a loving, Christ-centered environment.  Music, art, and hands-on learning will be incorporated.  If you or someone you know has a little one ready for TK, please contact the WCDS office.
